On 10th  July 2008, my two-month internship in Denizli ,Turkey began. As an English teacher , I really had a great time in the foundation Aksiyon.

Denizli is a nice city which is surrounded by picturesque mountains. The sky is always so blue and the air is very clear which makes me feel like living in a different world. The sunny weather there keeps me in good mood. A lot of trees such as olive trees, apple trees, grape trees and so on grow in native’s small gardens. Different kinds of mosques stand everywhere. On the street , I’m always attracted by the smell of Turkish roasted meat. Turkish black tea is necessary in daily life. Watching football match in night bars is really an exciting moment. Life there is enjoyable.

But what impressed most was the people there. They were extremely enthusiastic. At first , the dry weather there made me so uncomfortable and I could not get used to their way of life especially the unfixed time for meals. But they always said to me if I needed something ,just spoke out. And most of them asked me whether I like their country , when I said yes, they would be so happy and began to talk with me about their country from the beautiful scenery to historic places ,from their president to Turkish black tea. They loved their country so much and wanted me to join with them. It ‘s a great way to learn more about Turkey.

An engineer named Ismail was my best friend there. He was very busy but always invited me to go around and helped me a lot in my life there. He is very humorous and life with him was full of laugh. His sister is also a nice girl. We talked together , danced together and did shopping together. We exchanged Turkish and Chinese music. And I can feel their passion especially for dancing. In a traditional wedding , everyone began to dance even the little children and they taught me how to dance. When we were on the way home, we were so excited that we shaked our body with hand in hand in the car. My Turkish father can speak English and he always introduced the different kinds of Turkish food to me. It was quite interesting. The whole family is a great one.

When I came to my work ,I did not feel much pressure. But of course, there was some problems in the beginning. My students could not understand me well  sometimes so I have to search as many simple words as possible for preparation. And I began to use body language to explain. It was very funny but embarrassing at times. However, due to this ,the atmosphere became so good. We were friends. Later , I used more pictures in my ppt and I found it was much easier to teach if I learned some Turkish. And I even once went to their normal night English classes to see how their teacher taught them.

During the teaching course and talking with people there, I found most of them show great interest to China. But actually they did not have a right concept . They often asked me if Chinese people really ate dogs. They thought dogs were so lovely pets. And they could not understand why most of us Chinese did not have religion. Every time they asked me ,I felt it was a pity that some misunderstandings kept each other from distance. It was the first time that the importance of cultural exchange really came to my mind.

It was lucky of me to watch the Beijing Olympic games abroad. It was quite a different feeling. When I watched the opening ceremony and sang the national song, I never felt that I loved my country so much. I felt so proud when Turkish people said it was so perfect.

In general , it is wonderful experience I will never forget. I have a new view of the world and myself. I do not take something for granted. Thanks to AIESEC.
